RoHS and WEEE

These recently introduced pieces of Europe wide legislation have been incorporated into our stringent product procurement and reorder routines. Our customers can rest assured that we have sought approval for all of our products which are covered by these directives. For more information on RoHS please visit the RoHs website.

The WEEE Regulations have been put in place with effect from January 2007 to tackle the growing amount of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).

These regulations also affect everyone who uses, sells, treats or disposes of WEEE. Every year the UK throws away around 2 million tonnes of WEEE. It is one of the fastest growing waste streams in the UK and the EU. In 2003, the EU adopted the WEEE Directive to deal with this waste. More waste will be collected for treatment and recovery and less will go to landfill. You can get more information on the regulations from the Environment Agency website.

AVSL Group is fully committed to reducing the amount of waste product consigned to landfill in the UK and has already joined an approved compliance scheme.

Packaging waste directive

The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations 2007 seeks to reduce the impact of packaging and packaging waste on the environment by introducing recovery and recycling targets for packaging waste, and by encouraging minimisation and reuse of packaging.

AVSL Group is a member of a scheme that meets the criteria stated in this legislation and we are meeting our packaging obligations. You can get more information on the regulations from the Defra website

Waste Batteries & Accumulators Regulations

The Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009 implement in the UK the waste battery provisions of the EU Directive on Batteries and accumulators and Waste Batteries and Accumulators 2006/66/EC

These Regulations set out requirements for waste battery collection, treatment, recycling and disposal for all battery types. The Regulations also affect battery distributors/retailers, and waste bettery collectors, recyclers and exporters.

This legislation will improve the environmental performance of batteries and accumulators and those involved in their life cycle.
